✨ SCIENCE IN ACTION! ✨

Class 12 explored the mysteries of matter during their Nature of the Universe Main Lesson, with a day of dry ice experiments.

Did you know that metal ‘screams’ when touched with dry ice? 😱 Our senior scientists created mega fog in a kettle, flash-froze leaves until they snapped, launched bung guns and film canister rockets, and conjured up super bubbles in a beaker.

Hands-on, minds-on, and full of wonder β€” this is science at Michael Park School. 🌬️🌿πŸ’₯

🎻✨ We’re incredibly proud of Class 11 student Violet Theodore, whose musical talent continues to shine! Violet is now in her third year of scholarships with the Manukau Symphony Orchestra and has won multiple first places at Auckland Performing Arts Competitions. Ka rawe, Violet!

🎡 At Michael Park School, music is woven through the fabric of our learning. From Class 1 to Class 12, students engage with music through singing, instruments, and regular performance opportunities. Concerts are held every term, and our rich programme is supported by itinerant teachers offering private and ensemble lessons in a wide range of instruments.

Our students don’t just learn music β€” they live it. 🎢

“Never have I ever… baked damper bread under a hailstorm!” 🌧️
Class 4 adventurers braved the wild weather and embraced the challenge at Rangimarie Bush Centre – where the fire was warm, the bread was toasty, and the memories were unforgettable. πŸ•οΈ

Tip-off time! πŸ€
Basketball season has officially begun. Our U17 Boys had a solid warmup against Macleans on home court, but faced a tough game this week, going down to Tamaki College.

The MPS Wolves (Class 6/7 mixed) took it to the court at B&T Stadium last week – after a hard-fought game against SwishedOn, they bounced back strong this week with a win over the Pythons.

Shoutout to our High School Junior Girls who made a strong season debut, taking the win against Baradene College.

A great start to the season, fierce energy, and plenty more to come.
Let’s go MPS! πŸ’ͺ

Level 2 Chemistry in Action!

Many harmful chemical compounds find their way into environmental waterways. Class 11 students conducted testing on water samples, identifying harmful chemical compounds by detecting both cations and anions (positively and negatively charged ions). They researched the impact these pollutants can have on ecosystems and human health.

It’s science with purposeβ€”empowering students to understand and protect the world around them.

Look who’s on TV!
Class 4 had an exciting opportunity to appear on the Three TV show 7DAYS, which aired tonight! It was a fun and memorable experience being part of the action and seeing how a TV show is made.

If you missed it, you can catch the episode on Three+1 at 8:30pm tonight, or stream it anytime on the ThreeNow app. (M –Β suitable for mature audiences 16 years of age and over.)

Please note: While our tamariki appear briefly during a game segment, the show includes adult themes in the comedians’ discussions. We recommend that parents watch first and use their discretion around which parts to share with their children.

Class 3’s Journey Through Time

Class 3’s Journey Through Time

Our tamariki in Class 3 have just completed their Time and Seasons Main Lesson β€” a hands-on exploration of how humans have marked time through the ages. From watching the sun and moon, to learning the days and months in English, Te Reo Māori, and German (with dancing and clapping along the way!), they brought time to life.
They traced their shadows, crafted sundials, experimented with ancient candle and water clocks, and even built their own wooden clocks in the Outdoor Classroom β€” shaping both short and long hands themselves.
This rich, creative journey unfolded deep understanding, while naturally weaving in literacy and maths skills.

Ko te wā – he taonga!
Time is a treasure.
