Michael Park School provides contemporary Steiner education which reflects the unique context of Aotearoa, New Zealand and includes the New Zealand Curriculum.
As you would expect to find in a Steiner school, our approach to education arises from a picture of the child as an individual of body, soul and spirit in a gradual and purposeful process of growth and development. As educators, we aim to facilitate the removal of barriers to learning and support the individual to realise their inner potential and aspirations. This is reflected in our learning programmes from kindergarten to senior high school.
We see education as being for life, not just about qualifications; although the high levels of student achievement in our senior high school evidence the value we place on academic certainty. A broad and well-rounded programme develops the capacity in our graduates to be creative, self-aware, self-motivated individuals who find purpose and meaning in whatever it is they set themselves to do.
We recognise teaching and learning as a fundamentally human experience and believe that real engagement comes from great teachers. We invest heavily in their personal and professional development and take an ongoing interest in research and best practice within New Zealand and internationally.
Kia rangatira ai te tamaiti
Tohua ki te aroha
Tukuna tōna mana, kia rere
In order to revere the child
We must guide with love
And allow the child’s own authority to flow
We welcome questions from parents seeking to better understand our philosophy and the approach that Rudolph Steiner developed for learning.
