As part of their Surveying Main Lesson, Class 10 embarked on a two-night camp to Whatipu, on Auckland’s rugged west coast.

This immersive experience allowed students to put theory into action! Working in teams, they applied Linear and Radial Surveying techniques, measuring distances with tapes and bearings with compasses. The culmination of their efforts? A detailed, scaled map of Whatipu Campsite, presented in a beautifully crafted poster.

Beyond the surveying work, students stayed at the historic Whatipu Lodge, one of New Zealand’s oldest liveable buildings. Their time away also included exploring the vast beach and mysterious caves, deepening their connection with the land.

This camp was not just about learning skills – it was about whakamātau, mahi tahi, and tūhura (practical application, teamwork, and exploration). An unforgettable journey of hands-on education!
